St Paul’s School Grade 2 Students Visit
On Tuesday 7th March, 75 Grade 2 Students from St Paul’s School
visited us to find out about the origins on Barungwarra bushland
reserve and the Bald Hills Bushies. The visit was part of an exercise
to encourage the students to think about the way communities
develop over a period of time. The students came along in three
groups of 25 and Bushie Helen explained about the progress of
the site from disused quarry to the current parkland.
Bald Hills Bushies inducted into Habitat Brisbane
Bald Hills Bushies recently applied for and were accepted as members of
Habitat Brisbane. The picture shows members at the Orientation Day which
was held at Kenmore. Membership will greatly assist us in achieving our
goals by providing support in the form of materials, tools and guidance. Our
Habitat Brisbane contact Jenny Leask (third from left in the picture) has
attended several meetings and advised us on weed control, vine removal
and other matters.
Jenny is also helping us to develop a long term plan which will outline our
goals and provide a framework for achieving them.
Sandgate Sandbag group help out at Barungwarra
Sandbag is a volunteer community development group with many useful
community projects to their name. Their Employment Pathways course takes
people who are having difficulty finding a job and prepares them for work. In
October, a group of trainees from one of these courses helped our Bushies
with weeding and mulch spreading.
We are verry grateful for the assista\nce provided and look forward to further
visits from Sandbag trainees in 2018.
You can read all about Sandbay by visiting their website here.
